"They Even Took the Dirt," a documentary about the building of I-496 in Lansing, premiered in the summer of 2023. Through over 100 interviews, archival photographs and film, it brings to life the vibrant Black neighborhood that was wiped out by Interstate 496 in the 1960s. In keeping with Doco-US's 2023 Tourday theme of urban renewal, this film provides evidence of what was lost in the name of progress. The Lansing Historical Society, producer of the film, has made it  available on YouTube to watch on demand.  Lawrence Cosentino's article in City Pulse provides background to the project, ‘They even took the dirt’ | City Pulse (lansingcitypulse.com)
