Cranbrook Mid-Century Modern Exhibition
On Friday, June 20, 2025, avid followers of modernism attended the annual Docomomo member meeting held at Cranbrook Art Museum and were treated to special, private after-hours tours of the summer exhibition, Eventually Everything Connects: Mid-Century Modern Design in the United States.
Eventually Everything Connects a large-scale survey of one of the most important and persistent movements of modern design in the United States highlights Cranbrook’s pivotal role in its development, as well as the contributions of women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and designers of color during this period.
Drawing inspiration from the quote by Charles Eames, “Eventually everything connects: people, ideas, objects,” the exhibition featured approximately 200 works by nearly 100 artists, architects, and designers.
The tours were led by exhibition curator Andrew Satake Blauvelt and Miller/Knoll Curatorial Fellow Bridget Bartal. They were joined by Docomomo board members Debra Lubera Kawsky, independent art historian, and Katherine White, Curator of Design at The Henry Ford, whose research and essays contributed to this exhibition and catalogue project.
Both the exhibition and catalogue were generously supported by MillerKnoll, the Gilbert Family Foundation, the DeRoy Testamentary Foundation, the George Francoeur Art Museum Exhibition Fund, the Clannad Foundation, Bonhams, Karen and Drew Bacon, and Marc Schwartz and Emily Camiener.
